This Seiko Diver is from the third generation of these incredibly popular watches, which were produced from 1976-1988. The Seiko Turtle came in two references – this 6309-7049, which was produced for the North American market, and the 6309-7040, which was for Japan and the rest of the world.

At 45mm wide and 48mm long, these divers are large watches but are surprisingly comfortable despite their size. This example is fitted with a Seiko Hardlex mineral glass crystal, and the Seiko caliber 6309 movement is a 17-jewel workhorse automatic that practically runs forever. The day/date function has a quickset mechanism, making these watches not just rugged but also feature-rich and perfect daily driver divers.

For an added bit of fun, this reference can be seen on Ed Harris in the film The Abyss, and even Mick Jagger has been photographed wearing his personal example as well. 

SPECS

CASE & BRACELET

The stainless steel case has circular brushing on top, polished sides, and bottom, and is separated by a distinct case line. It has been gently polished and shows light use. The unsigned screw-down crown is located at the 4 o'clock position for increased water resistance and ease of use. The bezel features a double row of knurling for added grip underwater or when wet, and these watches have a very distinct handset that was designed for visibility under any conditions. The watch is supplied on a black NATO band.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black dial works well to make the oversized hour markers, hands, and day-date function all pop with incredible legibility. All lume is still in fantastic shape and bright white with practically no indication of the watch's age.

ACCESSORIES 

None. The watch is running and functioning correctly, though the service history is unknown. A movement service can be purchased upon request.
